C++ strchr() Function Example | std::strchr() in C++

C++ strchr() is an inbuilt function that is used for string handling. It is defined under the string.h header file. This is used for finding the first occurrence of a character in a particular string. If the occurrence is found a pointer to the location of that particular character in the string is returned.

C++ strchr() Function

The strchr() function finds the first occurrence of a character static_cast(ch) in the byte string pointed by str. The terminating null character is considered to be the part of the string and can be found if searching for ‘\0’.

Syntax

char *strchr(const char *str_var, int oc);

#c++ #c++ strchr()

C++ strchr() Function Example | std::strchr In C++

C++ strspn() is an inbuilt string handling function that works with two parameters and returns the length of the initial substring of the string which is pointed by the first parameter(string1) which only consists of the characters that are present in the string which is pointed by the second parameter(string2). It is defined as a string.h header file.

C++ strspn()

The strspn() method in C++ takes two string destination and source and gives the length of the maximum initial segment of the string destination that consists of characters that are present in the string source.

Syntax

size_t strspn( const char* destination_var, const char* source_var)

#c++ #c++ strchr()

Popular String Fuctions in C [With Examples]

Strings in C language are an array of characters ended with null characters (‘\0’). The null character at the end of a string indicates its end and the strings are always enclosed by double-quotes. In C language characters are enclosed by single quotes. Some examples of both of them shown below;

Example or Representation of C Characters and Strings

  • char string[10] = { ‘s’,’d’,’f’,’d’,’t’,’j’,’a’,’\0’ };
  • char string[10]=” fresher”;
  • char string[]=” fresher”;

There is a minor difference between the declarations of the strings in both of the above statements. Like when we declare char as string[10], 10 bytes of memory space gets allocated to hold the 10 values of string, while when we declare it like string[] then memory gets allocated at the time of execution of the program.

A Guide to using the strdup() function in C/C++

In this article, we’ll take a look at using the strdup() function in C/C++.

The strdup() function is very useful if you want to duplicate the contents of a string onto another string.

Let’s see how we can utilize this function, using some simple examples.
