Is TypeScript Worth Learning?

TypeScript is undoubtedly a programming language with enormous success. In the few years since its launch by Microsoft, it has reached a great evolution and popularity.

But is it worth learning?

I will show you remarkable things about the language and other things not that remarkable so that you can have more information and you can make the decision to learn it or not.

What is TypeScript?

We all know the crazy things that JavaScript accepts without showing us any errors, or at least until its runtime, which is where we can find all the mistakes we have. TypeScript makes us prevent all these errors by adding types to JavaScript. To start using TypeScript, you just need to install it and, by changing the extension from your .js file to .ts, you will have access to all the extra features that typescript offers us.

In your .ts file, you can write your JavaScript code but now your IDE will start showing you the errors in your code at the moment, not until the execution, or worse, until production.

The reason this works is that Typescript works like a compiled language, but instead of compiling in a virtual machine like java or into machine code, what it does is transpile your TypeScript code into vanilla JavaScript. You can use the typescript’s compiler or you can use another like babel.
