Javascript Timer | setTimeout | setInterval | clearTimeout

In Javascript, if we want to delay the execution of code, then we need to use the time interval functions. These time intervals are called timing events. The block of JavaScript code is executed synchronously. But there are some JavaScript native functions (timers) which allow us to delay the execution and we can create an async kind of behavior.

Javascript Timer Example

The two key methods to use in Timer with JavaScript are:

  1. setTimeout(function, milliseconds)
  2. Executes the function, after waiting the specified number of milliseconds.
  3. setInterval(function, milliseconds)
  4. Same as the setTimeout(), but repeats execution of the function continuously.

#Javascript setTimeout() Method

When we are writing the JavaScript code, we might want to delay the execution of the function. The setTimeout() method expects the two arguments: a reference to a callback function and the delay in milliseconds.

The job of setTimeout is straightforward. You specify the callback function to execute later, and the value expressing how then you want it to run, in milliseconds:

The simple example is the following.

setTimeout(() => {
  console.log('Run after two seconds')
}, 2000);

Now, for this example, we will use Node.js as a platform. So create one server.js file and add the above code and run the file using the following command.

#javascript #node.js #settimeout

setTimeout, setInterval and How to Schedule Tasks in JavaScript

The setTimeout() and setInterval() are two methods you can use to schedule tasks in JavaScript. This tutorial will show you how to do it. It will introduce you both methods. It will show you how these methods work. It will also show you how to use them to schedule execution of your code.

A quick introduction

Usually, you want to execute your code as you write it. That said, there will be situations when you will want to delay the execution. Or, you may want to repeat the execution in specific intervals. JavaScript provides two methods, one for each of these goals. The setTimeout() to delay execution and setInterval() to repeat it.

There is one interesting thing about these two methods to schedule tasks. None of them is a part of JavaScript language specification. These methods are actually part of HTML Living Standard specification, defined as “timers”. Fortunately, they are supported in all browsers, even in Node.js. So, we can use them safely. Let’s take a look at them.

Explained about

  • SetTimeout in Javascript
  • ClearTimeOut

TImeline
00:00 Introduction
03:35 Passing parameters to a callback function of settimeout
04:45 ClearTimeOut

Javascript Abimations:

JavaScript animations are done by programming gradual changes in an element’s style.
The changes are called by a timer. When the timer interval is small, the animation looks continuous.

What is JavaScript - Stackfindover - Blog

Who invented JavaScript, how it works, as we have given information about Programming language in our previous article ( What is PHP ), but today we will talk about what is JavaScript, why JavaScript is used The Answers to all such questions and much other information about JavaScript, you are going to get here today. Hope this information will work for you.

Who invented JavaScript?

JavaScript language was invented by Brendan Eich in 1995. JavaScript is inspired by Java Programming Language. The first name of JavaScript was Mocha which was named by Marc Andreessen, Marc Andreessen is the founder of Netscape and in the same year Mocha was renamed LiveScript, and later in December 1995, it was renamed JavaScript which is still in trend.

What is JavaScript?

JavaScript is a client-side scripting language used with HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). JavaScript is an Interpreted / Oriented language called JS in programming language JavaScript code can be run on any normal web browser. To run the code of JavaScript, we have to enable JavaScript of Web Browser. But some web browsers already have JavaScript enabled.

Today almost all websites are using it as web technology, mind is that there is maximum scope in JavaScript in the coming time, so if you want to become a programmer, then you can be very beneficial to learn JavaScript.

JavaScript Hello World Program

In JavaScript, ‘document.write‘ is used to represent a string on a browser.

<script type="text/javascript">
	document.write("Hello World!");
</script>

How to comment JavaScript code?

  • For single line comment in JavaScript we have to use // (double slashes)
  • For multiple line comments we have to use / * – – * /
<script type="text/javascript">

//single line comment

/* document.write("Hello"); */

</script>
