React: Components, Props, and State. The fundamentals of React component and how to use props and state to make a functioning app. Component can be treated as sections of the overall web page. The difference between props and state is that props are the data we send between different parts of the app and state is the condition of the component.

According to the official definition of Component in React:

Components let you split the UI into independent, reusable pieces and think about each piece in isolation.

Components can be treated as sections of the overall web page. The navbar, main content, footer, etc, all can be converted to individual components. Even parts of components can be further divided into components. The purpose of the component is to let one unit perform one individual task and the whole web page then works in a coherent way. Without components, you can use jQuery to target a particular element in the DOM. However, more and more web developers are picking UI frameworks like React to perform tasks on the front-end.

Class-Based vs Functional Component

You can write components with either classes or functions in React. Older codebases usually use class-based components and there is a new wave of engineers who are pushing functional programming as a better way of coding than the old OOP ( object-oriented programming) style of writing code.

For now, you may need to learn both functional and class-based components until everyone starts using functional components. However, we will focus mainly on functional components in the future, going with the trend.

In the components folder, create a file and name it Navbar.js
