As the latest advances regarding cloud computing, it has become even more necessary for the implementation of tools that are, at the same time, scalable, and that ensure the reproducibility of the execution. Having this need in mind, a few tools arose to the job, such as Docker, that allow the creation of a “recipe” of the application, ensuring that different builds of the same application run equally.
Differently than a Virtual Machine (VM), that provides an infrastructure through Hypervisors and emulates processors and memory, Docker shares these resources throughout the containers, allowing the developer to focus less on the infrastructure and more on the development of the application. Nonetheless, the containerization of projects and applications mitigates the expression “It Runs on My Machine”, given that it tries to ensure that, independently on the platform chosen by the developer, the Docker container executes always in the same way.
Given that the benefits of containerization go beyond the development of applications and can be useful in other fields, many data scientists began to use Docker to containerize their analysis, model training, dashboards, and APIs, both to make the delivery of projects easier (given that it reduces the possibility of bugs) and to ensure that the results found once, can always be reached again.

Perl script converts PDF files to Gerber format
Pdf2Gerb generates Gerber 274X photoplotting and Excellon drill files from PDFs of a PCB. Up to three PDFs are used: the top copper layer, the bottom copper layer (for 2-sided PCBs), and an optional silk screen layer. The PDFs can be created directly from any PDF drawing software, or a PDF print driver can be used to capture the Print output if the drawing software does not directly support output to PDF.
The general workflow is as follows:
Please note that Pdf2Gerb does NOT perform DRC (Design Rule Checks), as these will vary according to individual PCB manufacturer conventions and capabilities. Also note that Pdf2Gerb is not perfect, so the output files must always be checked before submitting them. As of version 1.6, Pdf2Gerb supports most PCB elements, such as round and square pads, round holes, traces, SMD pads, ground planes, no-fill areas, and panelization. However, because it interprets the graphical output of a Print function, there are limitations in what it can recognize (or there may be bugs).

The buzz around data science has sent many youngsters and professionals on an upskill/reskilling spree. Prof. Raghunathan Rengasamy, the acting head of Robert Bosch Centre for Data Science and AI, IIT Madras, believes data science knowledge will soon become a necessity.
IIT Madras has been one of India’s prestigious universities offering numerous courses in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence in partnership with many edtech startups. For this week’s data science career interview, Analytics India Magazine spoke to Prof. Rengasamy to understand his views on the data science education market.
With more than 15 years of experience, Prof. Rengasamy is currently heading RBCDSAI-IIT Madras and teaching at the department of chemical engineering. He has co-authored a series of review articles on condition monitoring and fault detection and diagnosis. He has also been the recipient of the Young Engineer Award for the year 2000 by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for outstanding engineers under the age of 32.
Of late, Rengaswamy has been working on engineering applications of artificial intelligence and computational microfluidics. His research work has also led to the formation of a startup, SysEng LLC, in the US, funded through an NSF STTR grant.
