5 Web UI Libraries in Python You Should Know

In this Python article, let's learn about Monitoring: 5 Web UI Libraries in Python You Should Know

Table of contents:

  1. Streamlit: Streamlit — The fastest way to build data apps in Python
  2. wave: Realtime Web Apps and Dashboards for Python and R
  3. PyWebIO: Write interactive web app in script way.
  4. FlaskBB: A classic Forum Software in Python using Flask.
  5. Wooey: A Django app that creates automatic web UIs for Python scripts.

What is Python?

Python is an interpreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language with dynamic semantics. Its high-level built in data structures, combined with dynamic typing and dynamic binding, make it very attractive for Rapid Application Development, as well as for use as a scripting or glue language to connect existing components together. Python’s simple, easy to learn syntax emphasizes readability and therefore reduces the cost of program maintenance. Python supports modules and packages, which encourages program modularity and code reuse. The Python interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form without charge for all major platforms, and can be freely distributed.

Often, programmers fall in love with Python because of the increased productivity it provides. Since there is no compilation step, the edit-test-debug cycle is incredibly fast. Debugging Python programs is easy: a bug or bad input will never cause a segmentation fault. Instead, when the interpreter discovers an error, it raises an exception. When the program doesn’t catch the exception, the interpreter prints a stack trace. A source level debugger allows inspection of local and global variables, evaluation of arbitrary expressions, setting breakpoints, stepping through the code a line at a time, and so on. The debugger is written in Python itself, testifying to Python’s introspective power. On the other hand, often the quickest way to debug a program is to add a few print statements to the source: the fast edit-test-debug cycle makes this simple approach very effective.

Quickstart

Hello, world

Here is a simple PyWebIO script to calculate the BMI:

from pywebio.input import input, FLOAT
from pywebio.output import put_text

def bmi():
    height = input("Your Height(cm):", type=FLOAT)
    weight = input("Your Weight(kg):", type=FLOAT)

    BMI = weight / (height / 100) ** 2

    top_status = [(14.9, 'Severely underweight'), (18.4, 'Underweight'),
                  (22.9, 'Normal'), (27.5, 'Overweight'),
                  (40.0, 'Moderately obese'), (float('inf'), 'Severely obese')]

    for top, status in top_status:
        if BMI <= top:
            put_text('Your BMI: %.1f, category: %s' % (BMI, status))
            break

if __name__ == '__main__':
    bmi()

This is just a very simple script if you ignore PyWebIO, but using the input and output functions provided by PyWebIO, you can interact with the code in the browser [demo]:

Serve as web service

The above BMI program will exit immediately after the calculation, you can use pywebio.start_server() to publish the bmi() function as a web application:

from pywebio import start_server
from pywebio.input import input, FLOAT
from pywebio.output import put_text

def bmi(): # bmi() keep the same
    ...

if __name__ == '__main__':
    start_server(bmi, port=80)

Web UI with Python FAQ

  • Can I build a web app with Python?

Python can be used to build server-side web applications. While a web framework is not required to build web apps, it's rare that developers would not use existing open source libraries to speed up their progress in getting their application working. Python is not used in a web browser.

  • Can Python be used for UI?

Python offers multiple options for developing GUI (Graphical User Interface).

  • What is web application in Python?

Python-driven web applications use Python code to determine what actions to take and what content to show. Your code is run by the web server that hosts your website, which means that your users don't need to install anything. All they need to interact with your code is a browser and an Internet connection.

Mutable objects

The Size and declared value and its sequence of the object can able to be modified called mutable objects.

Mutable Data Types are list, dict, set, byte array

Immutable objects

The Size and declared value and its sequence of the object can able to be modified.

Immutable data types are int, float, complex, String, tuples, bytes, and frozen sets.

id() and type() is used to know the Identity and data type of the object

a**=25+**85j

type**(a)**

output**:<class’complex’>**

b**={1:10,2:“Pinky”****}**

id**(b)**

output**:**238989244168

Built-in data types in Python

a**=str(“Hello python world”)****#str**

b**=int(18)****#int**

c**=float(20482.5)****#float**

d**=complex(5+85j)****#complex**

e**=list((“python”,“fast”,“growing”,“in”,2018))****#list**

l**=bytes(8)****#bytes**

m**=bytearray(8)****#bytearray**

n**=memoryview(bytes(18))****#memoryview**

Numbers (int,Float,Complex)

Numbers are stored in numeric Types. when a number is assigned to a variable, Python creates Number objects.

#signed interger

age**=**18

print**(age)**

Output**:**18

Python supports 3 types of numeric data.

int (signed integers like 20, 2, 225, etc.)

float (float is used to store floating-point numbers like 9.8, 3.1444, 89.52, etc.)

complex (complex numbers like 8.94j, 4.0 + 7.3j, etc.)

A complex number contains an ordered pair, i.e., a + ib where a and b denote the real and imaginary parts respectively).

String

The string can be represented as the sequence of characters in the quotation marks. In python, to define strings we can use single, double, or triple quotes.

# String Handling

‘Hello Python’

#single (') Quoted String

“Hello Python”

# Double (") Quoted String

“”“Hello Python”“”

‘’‘Hello Python’‘’

# triple (‘’') (“”") Quoted String

In python, string handling is a straightforward task, and python provides various built-in functions and operators for representing strings.

The operator “+” is used to concatenate strings and “*” is used to repeat the string.

“Hello”+“python”

output**:****‘Hello python’**

"python "*****2

'Output : Python python ’
