MongoDB Cloud provides a unified app experience for developers from the cloud to the edge

MongoDB kicked off its live virtual event this week by announcing it is uniting its range of data products under one umbrella – the MongoDB Cloud, which the company claims will make it far easier for developers to work with data in the enterprise. MongoDB online training helps you to learn more effectively.

The idea is that if developers want to work with MongoDB tools, at work, at home or on their mobiles, the experience is consistent throughout, including across the tools themselves.

The “unification” was announced alongside MongoDB 4.4, the latest edition of the company’s popular document model database that has seen MongoDB land at the core of analytics applications at some of the world’s largest organisations, including eBay and Google. The main improvements in the latest version are speed, scalability and resiliency.

Three other products – Atlas Data Lake, Atlas Search and MongoDB Realm – are also now generally available and subsumed under the MongoDB Cloud umbrella.

Atlas Data Lake was announced last year and attempts to reproduce the slick analytics experience of MongoDB on data lakes (gargantuan stockpiles of data from different sources). Atlas Search, also announced last year, similarly tries to make searching and querying across data silos sharp, snappy and consistent.

Then there is MongoDB Realm, the birth product of Mongo’s 2019 acquisition of Realm.io, a popular open-source mobile database and synchronisation platform for building mobile applications at speed. In keeping with the consistency theme, Realm seamlessly integrates between the mobile client on the frontend and Atlas on the backend, meaning there are no synchronisation SNAFUs during development.

“While cloud computing has revolutionized the tech industry, providing a low cost of entry and unlimited scale among other proven benefits, most cloud migrations have merely replicated the complexities and drawbacks of the traditional datacenter,” said Dev Ittycheria, President & CEO of MongoDB. “With MongoDB Cloud, developers can finally leave the burden of data silos and sprawl behind and truly unlock the value of data through a unified development experience.”
