So, you want to create a web application but you have large amounts of data that you need to keep organized and stored efficiently? This article is all you’re going to need.

In case you’ve missed the recent trends in technology,  object storage is a concept that has arisen out of the need for better data storage for big data. Through this form of storage, where data is stored as “objects” in a flat hierarchy, you can conserve the quality of your data while making it easy to retrieve through unique metadata. Sounds promising?

If you already knew what this is, then you’re probably trying to integrate it into your web application. So, in this article, you will find a list of code examples to help you get started with this type of architecture and make it easier to integrate into your application.

We will use JavaScript (Node.js) as a programming language throughout this article, but because most object storages are S3 compatible, we’ll rely on the official  Amazon S3 library to interact with this type of architecture. This provides a generalization — because we can change the cloud provider without having to make changes to the code level — and also easier integration, regardless of the language we use.

Prerequisites

To run these examples, we need Node.js installed along with the aws-sdk NPM  module and a new index.js file with the following content:

const AWS = require("aws-sdk");
const { promises: fsPromise } = require("fs");
