Let’s talk about some of the best practices that should be followed while using Terraform.
Terraform is a very popular open-source IaC (infrastructure as code) tool to define and provision the complete infrastructure.
Although Terraform was launched in 2014, the adoption of this tool has grown globally. More and more developers are learning Terraform to deploy infrastructure in their organization.
If you have started using Terraform, you must adopt the best practices for better production infrastructure provisioning.
If you are a newbie then check out this Terraform for beginner’s article.
When you are working on a large production infrastructure project using Terraform, you must follow a proper directory structure to take care of the complexities that may occur in the project. It would be best if you had separate directories for different purposes.
For example, if you are using terraform in development, staging, and production environments, have separate directories for each of them.
geekflare@geekflare:~$ tree terraform_project/ terraform_project/ ├── dev │ ├── main.tf │ ├── outputs.tf │ └── variables.tf ├── modules │ ├── ec2 │ │ ├── ec2.tf │ │ └── main.tf │ └── vpc │ ├── main.tf │ └── vpc.tf ├── prod │ ├── main.tf │ ├── outputs.tf │ └── variables.tf └── stg ├── main.tf ├── outputs.tf └── variables.tf 6 directories, 13 files Copy
Even the terraform configurations should be separate because, after a period, the configurations of a growing infrastructure will become complex.
For example – you can write all your terraform codes (modules, resources, variables, outputs) inside the
main.tf file itself, but having separate terraform codes for variables and outputs makes it more readable and easy to understand.
Naming conventions are used in Terraform to make things easily understandable.
For example, let’s say you want to make three different workspaces for different environments in a project. So, rather than naming then as env1, en2, env3, you should call them as a dev, stage, prod. From the name itself, it becomes pretty clear that there are three different workspaces for each environment.
Similar conventions for resources, variables, modules, etc. also should be followed. The resource name in Terraform should start with a provider name followed by an underscore and other details.
For example, the resource name for creating a terraform object for a route table in AWS would be
So, if you follow the naming conventions right, it will be easier to understand even complex codes.

Terraform is a powerful tool to have in your toolset.
It’s effortless to use, for creating new infrastructure, but not so much for importing existing infrastructure, and hopefully, this post will demystify some of these complexities!
Because like everything else in life, it is sometimes impossible to plan for the future. Without adequate planning with the creation of infrastructure, it can lead to situations where infrastructure needs to be created manually due to time pressures, emergency releases or just the fact that the infrastructure exists, and terraform was never used in the first instance.
It’s worth reiterating that its always much simpler to create the terraform first, you would only ever import when you need to do something reactive, like an emergency release
Before the terraform import is run, two places can be used as a starting point:

Furthermore, when compared to traditional educational techniques, the flexibility and customization given by online tutoring software like Expertplus LMS are unrivalled. As a result, it is gradually becoming an important component of the learning process, which is why eLearning is here to stay– even after the epidemic has passed, it is a huge increase in the number of eLearning applications and websites, and most businesses are choosing for Udemy Clone App instead of starting from scratch.
How can I get started with your own online tutoring company?
To use the Udemy Clone App script to establish an online tutoring marketplace similar to Udemy, bear the following factors in mind:
This year’s global pandemic has forced the fast adjustment for many organizations from in-office normality to a remote working setup at whiplash speed. The rapid adoption of remote working is not easy though—even without the pressure of COVID.
Challenges are abundant for both those with remote working experience and those without. Managers and team leaders are struggling to keep their teams motivated and efficient. Remote teams are often seen as more difficult to manage, but the tips discussed in this article can help you overcome these challenges.
Before digging deeper into time and task management, there are actually several basic steps that you need to complete in order to make remote teams effective. The first thing you want to do is making sure that team members can communicate easily and effectively, and that means establishing a way of communicating that everyone is comfortable with.
Most teams turn to Slack, but Slack is not always the best tool for the job. If your team puts emphasis on project management, for instance, using digital Kanban tools with built-in chat feature can be more effective and other communication tools such as Google Mail with Google Chat and Meet integrations are helpful. Microsoft has a similar suite of tools if you’re inclined to that choice of software.
To further empower team members, integrate a good task management platform. There is no way to keep track of everything when team members have to organize their tasks individually. The easier way to establish a baseline for remote working is by using a project or task management tool that turns tasks into blocks waiting to be managed such as Trello, Asana or Basecamp.
Lastly, encourage team members to create a productive environment that works for them. Some startups and corporations are starting to provide team members with aids to help them set up a more comfortable and functional home office. This is the kind of initiative that puts team members in the right mindset for effective remote working.

The electric scooter revolution has caught on super-fast taking many cities across the globe by storm. eScooters, a renovated version of old-school scooters now turned into electric vehicles are an environmentally friendly solution to current on-demand commute problems. They work on engines, like cars, enabling short traveling distances without hassle. The result is that these groundbreaking electric machines can now provide faster transport for less — cheaper than Uber and faster than Metro.
Since they are durable, fast, easy to operate and maintain, and are more convenient to park compared to four-wheelers, the eScooters trend has and continues to spike interest as a promising growth area. Several companies and universities are increasingly setting up shop to provide eScooter services realizing a would-be profitable business model and a ready customer base that is university students or residents in need of faster and cheap travel going about their business in school, town, and other surrounding areas.
In many countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.K., Germany, France, China, Japan, India, Brazil and Mexico and more, a growing number of eScooter users both locals and tourists can now be seen effortlessly passing lines of drivers stuck in the endless and unmoving traffic.
A recent report by McKinsey revealed that the E-Scooter industry will be worth― $200 billion to $300 billion in the United States, $100 billion to $150 billion in Europe, and $30 billion to $50 billion in China in 2030. The e-Scooter revenue model will also spike and is projected to rise by more than 20% amounting to approximately $5 billion.
And, with a necessity to move people away from high carbon prints, traffic and congestion issues brought about by car-centric transport systems in cities, more and more city planners are developing more bike/scooter lanes and adopting zero-emission plans. This is the force behind the booming electric scooter market and the numbers will only go higher and higher.
Companies that have taken advantage of the growing eScooter trend develop an appthat allows them to provide efficient eScooter services. Such an app enables them to be able to locate bike pick-up and drop points through fully integrated google maps.
It’s clear that e scooters will increasingly become more common and the e-scooter business model will continue to grab the attention of manufacturers, investors, entrepreneurs. It is a tool that is used for building, changing and versioning infrastructure safely and effectively. Using the configuration file you describe to Terraform what components are needed. Terraform then goes and generates an execution plan describing what the desired state should be. And then it goes and executes and builds it. Terraform manages all this through a state file. Now there are two flavors of Terraform:
Terraform supports a wide variety of cloud and infrastructure platforms. This includes AWS, OpenStack, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes and much more.
The syntax of Terraform configurations is called HashiCorp Configuration Language (HCL). It is meant to strike a balance between being human-readable and editable, and being machine-friendly. For machine-friendliness, Terraform can also read JSON configurations.
The Terraform language uses configuration files that are named with
.tf file extension. There is also a JSON-based variant of the language that is named with the
.tf.json file extension.
We will start by creating a very simple Terraform file that will pull down the image from Docker Hub and start the container. In addition, we will use input variables. They serve as parameters for a Terraform file. A variable block configures a single input variable for a Terraform module. Each block declares a single variable. And we will create a map to specify different environment variables based on conditions.
This allows us to dynamically deploy infrastructure configurations based on information we pass to the deployment.
To start with we need to set up the environment:
mkdir terraform/ cd terraform/
#terraform #infrastructure #serverless #cloud-computing #docker #devops #infrastructure-as-code #aws
