If You Like React, Try React Native

I to put together this article to document where I am at in this goal, and this project, as well as encourage any bootcamp student or recent graduate who is enjoying React, to put in at least a couple days into React Native and see if you enjoy it as much as I have been.

I have challenged myself to dive into React Native. After working with a team at a hackathon on a full-stack Ruby application, we decided we wanted to continue the project and see it through. At the end of the even we realized the application would be better served through React Native, as the clients want it to be an app for smartphones. The only problem is, none of us have ever used React Native, but hey that’s the life of a programmer! If you like learning new things, and stepping out of your comfort zone, this is the place to be. We all had experience building out front end systems with React, so, surely this wouldn’t be a daunting challenge.

I’m sure most graduates have their favorite resource for learning new material, whether it be YouTube, Udemy, Khan Academy, or just reading all the documentation like a beast. Personally, LinkedIn Learning has really grown on me, the feature is almost as useful as the new ‘LinkedIn Stories’ feature (sarcasm) (I wonder if this topical take will age poorly).

A word of the wise, regardless of what React Native course you pursue, head my warning; many courses will instruct you to download services that are no longer supported, and when you have a decade old laptop like mine, every depreciated dependency you download can lead to hours of wasted time. Go for the most recent course you can find.
