When computer graphics was painfully slow, people started to develop the pipeline to slow things down, study and calculate a frame of graphics then do the composition; it sometimes takes months to make a short piece of visual music.
There is nothing wrong with the current production procedure, and it can produce masterpieces. But why real-time computer graphics is already amazing, why not give it a try?
Only real-time give you true dynamically responsive piece, and it also makes live performance possible.
A lot of times, UI is faster and good UI can be really helpful. It is the interface by definition. For complicated tasks such as 3D modeling, UI certainly helps, and that’s why we have things like Maya or TouchDesigner.
I’ll say something really sounds cliche here: a language will free your mind. UI is designed for common tasks. If you only know the interface, then your work is somewhat limited and conformed into a style of a specific software tool.
Knowing a language will help you understand what’s happening under the hood. And almost all software offers a programming interface, as UI is not enough to fulfill all the requirements.
