Deploy Angular App to Firebase with Github Actions

Github actions allows you to automate, customize, and execute your software development workflows right in your repository. It is the best way to create and maintain a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) lifecyle for your application.

We assume you already have pushed your application to Github repository. Let’s start with the configuration of Github actions.

Step 1 – Create Github Action

Login to your Github account and access your repository. In your repository click on Actions tab, then click “set up a workflow yourself” link.

Step 2 – Create a Workflow

Once you click on setp workflow link, this will edit a new file “.github/workflows/main.yml” under the repository. Which contains some default configuration for the Workflow.

You will see the newly crated file, something like this:

Writing tests is the first step of it. But then, running those tests everytime you make a change in the code is a time consuming process where you can benefit from some automation. This is where Github Actions come into play: How about creating a workflow in Github Actions which will run the tests for you when you make a pull request and won’t allow merging to master and deploying to production if the tests fail? That would really help with avoiding unintentional deployment of buggy code. Another important point is not forgetting to deploy your code into production when a pull request is merged to master. The Github workflow that we are going to create will also handle that by automatically deploying to Firebase Hosting when a pull request is completed.
