How I Overcame My Fear of Programming

How I Overcame My Fear of Programming

Today, I’m writing this article for young developers who are feeling hopeless because they don’t believe they can make it. I’m here to tell you it gets better.

I wrote my first C program in 2015. I still remember feeling ecstatic once I was done even if I had the most basic program:

#include <stdio.h>

int main()
{
 printf(“My name is Derny”);
return 0;
}

Our teacher had 40-plus years in the field and I still remember them reading us pages of The C Programming Language by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie_. _For most of the term, we learned about arrays, pointers, flow controls, strings, and all that good stuff. The theory was not a problem. It was always easy for me to remember the topics and explain them in exams. The real problem came when we had projects that I had to code.

These projects were quite simple when I think about them now. Yet, at that time, I did not possess the experience that I do now. I almost failed that class because I couldn’t write a single function that made sense.

This experiment made me resent code. I tried to avoid taking programming classes every chance I got. I found a passion for networking and told myself I didn’t need programming skills.

Today, I’m writing this article for young developers who are feeling hopeless because they don’t believe they can make it. I’m here to tell you it gets better.
