Paytm Interview Experience (On Campus)

**First round: **Online coding round on cocubes. It has three coding questions.

  1. Print reverse given numbers.
  2. Find the maximum sum of subarray containing no duplicates.
  3. Find the shortest leaf node distance from a given node in a binary tree.

Those who were able to do 2 questions by handling all corner cases were shortlisted.

Second round (Technical round 1): In this round basic oops concept were asked like polymorphism, constructor, and concept of vptr, vtable. Some projects related questions.

Four coding questions were asked

  1. Find if there is a bridge in a graph so if we remove that bridge then graph become two strongly connected graph.
  2. Find all left leaf nodes in the binary tree.
  3. The diameter of the binary tree.
  4. Find all duplicate subtree in the binary tree.

I was able to answer all the questions. So they called me for the next technical round.

Third Round (Technical round 2): In this round, he wanted to see my problem-solving skills and technologies in which I have hands-on experience.

He asked about all my projects which are present in my resumes. He also told me if possible then give a demo of some project.

He asked about API development. There was half an hour discussion on lru implementation. He started giving me a different different scenario and asked me to relate it with lru and which data structure to use.

  1. He asked me to sort an array of 0 1 2 in o(n) time complexity.
  2. He gave me the next coding question he told me to find elements of an array where a+b+c+d=0. Duplicate values were not allowed.
  3. He also asked some differences in Java and CPP. Asked about python matplotlib, pandas. Because my project included these libraries.

Some discussions happened on the concept of multi-threading. I answered all questions he was very much impressed by me.

Fourth Round: For me, it was only for 15 minutes because my feedback from both previous rounds was good. So in this round manager asked me some questions like why Paytm, one of my projects.

Finally, I got an offer.

Online Coding Round | Time: 70 minutes | 3 Coding Questions

  1. Was based on Number System.
  2. Counting the number of minimum currency required for given amount.
  3. To find the distance of the closest leaf from a node with given data.

Around 50 students were selected from the coding round and were called for further interview rounds and most of them solved two of them. I also did two only third was giving error and countdown said time is over.

**Round 1(Technical Interview): **The interviewer was very friendly. He asked me to introduce my self Then he asked me some question

  1. Length of the longest substring without repeating characters.

  2. First, we discussed brute force then he asked me to optimise then we discussed the sliding window approach. He asked me to write a code for this. After writing code he asked me to run on any compiler I did in Xcode.

  3. Top View of the binary search tree.

  4. In this, he just asked me to write the function and explained the approach. After he was satisfied with both the code then he asked me basic questions on DBMS, OS.

  5. Afterward, he asked me about the project and show the project and discussed the pandasNumpyNaive Bayes and matplotlib.

Then he asked me to ask any question, so I asked about feedback like it is my first job interview give me little review he replied with a very positive review I was very happy then.

After approximately 30 minutes got mail for a second-round interview.

**Round 2(Technical Round): **The interviewer was very friendly. He asked me to introduce myself self and then directly he jumped on the coding question.

  1. Print Longest Palindromic Substring
  2. Again I started with brute force then he asked for optimisation I discussed the DP approach
  3. He asked me to write the code.
  4. Find Maximum sum in an array such that no two elements are adjacent
  5. He asked only the approach I explained.
  6. Then he asked some basic oops concept and some SQL query and some os concept too.

After around 15 min again got mail for the next round.

**Round 3(HR Round): **Started with a brief introduction, and then he asked me to tell any topic we can discuss I said os or DBMS

Then he asked me about semaphore, mutex, and then asked basic schema for a given situation when you are match referee in a chess game, and if anything undesired occurs then you have to restore it.

Apart from it, he asked me to tell how was my previous interview and basic HR questions.

A total of 15 people were selected and 3 of them were my close friends…

Tips: Be confident with answers and all the questions were from GeeksforGeeks and hackerrank.

TCS Digital Interview Experience (Off-Campus)

I had first given TCS NQT after which students with top scores were given a chance to give another assessment – TCS Digital. The suspense here was after getting a call for an interview we didn’t know whether we were being considered for Digital or Ninja profile.

Round 1: It was a technical round lasted about 40 mins. Two Interviewers. Though most of the interviewers ask questions about DSA and related subjects to CSE to freshers that were not the case with me.

The first question they asked me was:

” Tell us about yourself…”:

Though a very general question but the answer to it is very tricky. Your answer decides what they gonna ask next. The ball is in your court here. If you give an interesting and thoughtful answer they’ll ask you about the same things you mentioned.

My Answer: “Basic Introduction. I’m a Backend Developer and I’ve worked on some live projects… I work on Python | Django, GIT, AWS…” Now for a fresher its a good start. They started to ask me questions related to the work I’ve done, the technologies I’ve used, how I started, and my future goals…

For some, such a twist might not be beneficial but I consider myself fortunate enough to have this.

Round 2: It was an HR Round. This was really one of the best discussions I’ve ever had. We talked about almost everything from the Abrogation of Article 372 by Modi Government to Paytm’s business model to Blockchains and Cryptocurrency and so on… Well, it would have been easy if you read a lot and have knowledge of all these things…

Earlier I thought that it would be easy to crack the interview based on the given JD and my technical knowledge. But it really got tricky in the non-technical discussion when we were sharing insights and opinions on the ongoing hot topics. I never thought that such subject knowledge can be sometimes useful even when you are being interviewed for a full technical profile. Really an amazing and enriching experience throughout the process.

Paytm Interview Experience - SDE 1

I got the chance to get interview for Software Development Engineer 1 post for Paytm Payment Banks office in Noida. I had 1.5 year experience.

Round 1: Technical Round

The first round is a mixture of DS and DBMS questions along with concepts of java and some questions on my projects mentioned in resume. He started with my work experience and projects.

He asked me to create SQL tables to show the relation between user and passport number. An user can have multiple passport number entries due to cancellation or reissuing. He wants me to draw tables writing all fields required, mention keys and relationship between user table and passport table. Further on this, he asked me some MySQL queries on the same DB problem and few are separated from it like find second max salary and count of unique account numbers.

DS questions are Rotten orange problem, binary search code, he insisted me to write code in java. He asked me questions over what technologies I know.

Round 2: Technical Round

In my second interview, he thoroughly went through my resume to ask me different questions on my skills.

  • DS question: find minimum no. of platforms required to schedule the trains(arrival and departure time is given)
  • Explain about internal working of HashMap in java
  • Arrange the students on the basis of marks. (override comparator of sort() method)
  • Some java concepts questions: All OOP concepts – polymorphism, inheritance, encapsulation, abstraction, how to achieve multiple inheritance, difference between interface and abstract class, String mutability, garbage collection in java, Singleton pattern (thread safe), factory pattern, multi-threading
  • Difference between SQL and NOSQL DB, CAP theorem, ACID properties

Round 3: Managerial Round

The last round is VP round with the VP of the team. He was very friendly. He asked me about work experience about my current company. This round is short one.

  1. Tell me something about yourself.
  2. Why do you want to switch the company?
  3. What are the challenges do you face till now?
  4. Which project do you liked the most and why?
  5. Team Conflict questions.
  6. What are your strengths?
  7. Do you have any Location constraints?

Result: Selected

Microsoft Interview Experience | On-Campus for Internship

Round 1: Online Coding Test

I was in my T.Y. B.Tech. (Sem 5), when Microsoft visited our campus for offering 2 months summer internship.

First Round was online coding test on CoCubes Platform. Difficulty level of questions were easy to medium. 3 Coding questions were to be solved. Questions Were

  1. A Number plate problem where only odd and even number plate vehicles can go out on a weekday. Given numbers of vehicle and schedule of odd/even on weekday, find maximum number of vehicles that can go out on a day.
  2. A problem based on BFS of Graph. Similar to Rotten Oranges Problem.
  3. Given a Singly Linked List, Reverse the linked list in place using O(1) space.

Some Other Questions were

  1. Reverse a Linked List in groups of size K
  2. Some traversal problem based on BST and graph.

Nearly 25 students passed this round.

Round 2: On Paper Coding Round

Groups were formed and each group was assigned a mentor. We were supposed to explain the approach of problems given to our mentor and code on paper. Questions Were :

  1. Check if a given Binary tree is a BST without using extra space.
  2. Finding second maximum element of the array.
  3. Find Depth of BST.

I found inorder traversal of the tree for first problem but no extra space was to be used. I reduced the space complexity to O(1) but time complexity was O(n). I found depth of BST using Recursion.

Nearly 15 students were selected for Face to Face interviews. I was one of them.

Round 3: Face to Face Interview – 1

Questions asked during my interview were :

  1. Write on paper code for Binary Search
  2. Implement a Queue data structure using Stack data structure.
  3. Write a code to heapify a array. It was basically a Heap Data Structure problem but I messed up here.
  4. Asked about Dynamic Programming and a question to find longest palindromic subsequence.
  5. ACID property of DBMS.

Only 5 people cleared this round and I was rejected after this.
