Python Dictionary Copy Example | Python dict copy()

The  Dictionary is one of the popular data structures in Python. We often come across the times when we need to copy the elements of the dictionary from one to another. This is where the dictionary copy() method.

Python Dictionary copy()

Python dictionary copy() is an inbuilt function that returns a copy of a specified dictionary. The copy() function returns a shallow copy of the dictionary. The copy() method doesn’t take any parameters. It doesn’t modify the original dictionary.

The syntax of the copy() method in the Python Dictionary is the following.

dictionary.copy()

See the following example.

## app.py

appDict = {
    'shopping': 'flipkart',
    'transport': 'ola',
    'banking': 'paytm',
    'hotel': 'oyo rooms'
 }
secDict = appDict.copy()
print(secDict)

See the below output.

In the above example, an exact copy of appDict is created and assigned to the secDict.

#python #python dict copy

Lambda, Map, Filter functions in python

Welcome to my Blog, In this article, we will learn python lambda function, Map function, and filter function.

Lambda function in python: Lambda is a one line anonymous function and lambda takes any number of arguments but can only have one expression and python lambda syntax is

Syntax: x = lambda arguments : expression

Now i will show you some python lambda function examples:

#python #anonymous function python #filter function in python #lambda #lambda python 3 #map python #python filter #python filter lambda #python lambda #python lambda examples #python map

Working with Python dictionaries: a cheat sheet

Accessing, editing and looping through dictionary items

Dictionaries in Python are a collection of key-value pairs — meaning every item in the dictionary has a key and an associated value.

If we want to write down prices of some items in a grocery store, normally we will note them on a piece of paper like this:

eggs - 4.99
banana - 1.49
cheese- 4.5
eggplant - 2.5
bread - 3.99

In Python dictionary lingo, the name of each item is “key” and the associated price is “value” and they appear in pairs. We can represent the same in a Python dictionary data structure as follows:

{"eggs": 4.99,
"banana": 1.49,
"cheese": 4.5,
"eggplant": 2.5,
"bread": 3.99}

Notice the differences. In the dictionary

  • each key is within quotation marks because they are strings
  • the associated values are not quoted because they are numeric
  • keys and values are separated by a colon (:)
  • the items are comma-separated

Python Add To Dictionary Example | Add Key In Python Dict

Python add to dictionary example is today’s topic. Python has so many data structures, and one of them is the Dictionary. Python dictionary is one of the built-in Python data types. Add and remove elements are is the standard operations of data structures, and add element to dictionary is one of them. Python dictionary elements are key-value pairs.

Python add to dictionary

Perfect meaning of Python add to dictionary is either items or elements insert into  dictionary. We will see different ways of inserting key-value pairs in Python dict.

Some of the data structures have specific methods to add elements in the structure, but there is no explicitly defined method to add the new key to the dictionary.

If you want to add the new key to a dictionary, then you can use the assignment operator with the dictionary key.

See the following snippet.

dict[key] = value

Now, one thing to keep in mind that if the key already exists, then it will override the value.

#python #python dict #python add to dictionary
