“ARE YOU WELL?” We’ve all been asked this question or have asked others at some point. Usually, it’s an inquiry as to whether we are currently suffering from any illness or ailment, as “ Workplace Wellness “ is generally assumed to be associated with physical wellbeing. But this is far from being the truth. Workplace Wellness. We know it is a hot topic within organizations to maintain employee satisfaction but what does it really mean? Wellbeing and living a healthy life have evolved to represent more than being physically fit. No longer is it enough to make it to the gym and sweat. Today, being healthy and alive involves a more complex and systematic approach that leads to quality of life. To experience optimal health, all dimensions of your wellness wheel must be healthy and tended to. First, let’s understand – What is the Wellness Wheel and how can it help? A Wellness Wheel is like your wheel of fortune. In here, you cover various categories with regards to up keeping yourself by empowering, making positive affirmations, busting out your stress, and gaining control over many other aspects of your life, to ensure a fit you. The core principle behind the wheel of wellness is that balance is key to achieve a state of wellbeing. It is an integration of the 8 interactive dimensions that continually influence and balance each other to create overall wellbeing. Each dimension forms a piece of a lifestyle pie; without one piece, there is a void, a missing link that imbalances the remainder of the dimensions. While a wellness wheel serves the same purpose for everyone: making sure that your health values and needs are met, every person’s wellness wheel may differ slightly. For example, to be fulfilled socially, you need to have a strong support network, make time for family and friends, and nurture your relationships. The 8 vital dimensions that will help you attain balance in life , are categorized as below –

  1. Physical Wellbeing MOVE MORE. EAT BETTER. Physical wellbeing isn’t about physical perfection, it’s about physical competence. The ability to maximize physical abilities regardless of challenges. This area of wellbeing is concerned with elements like physical activity, nutrition, sleep/rest, flexibility, strength, and getting medical care when needed Below are some questions that can help you gauge how your employees are doing in the physical dimension - a. Do my employees engage in physical activity regularly? b. Do my employees get the amount of sleep that they need? How may we encourage healthy sleeping habits ? c. What is their nutrition intake? What should be done to ensure healthier meals? Physical Wellbeing is much more than keeping your body in shape. It helps with the ability to perform daily duties with vitality and endurance, you’ll be able to think clearer, reduce stress, improve sleep and self-esteem.

  2. Social Wellbeing CONNECT WITH OTHERS. This dimension of wellbeing refers to the quality of relationships you have with others. Probably not high on everyone’s priority list, but having a good network of friends for support and friendship can play a huge role in keeping you on the road to overall wellbeing. Social wellbeing creates a sense of belonging, it makes people happier and physically healthier as well. It refers to the ability to interact successfully & to live up to the expectations and demands of your personal roles. This means learning good communication skills, developing intimacy with others, and creating a support network, whether they are family, friends, strangers, or colleagues. But emotional health is vital to us all, whatever our natural disposition.

  4. Intellectual Wellbeing

BOOST YOUR BRAIN. The human brain is a marvelous thing! It soaks up knowledge like a sponge, and whenever we learn something new it makes connections between strengthening itself, even replacing other ‘bridges’ lost over time. When we neglect it, on the other hand, the opposite can happen. Intellectual wellbeing isn’t about your IQ or level of education. It’s about Intellectual Curiosity (And, What’s that?)
