Apple WWDC20 (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) will begin next week (June 22 to 26). Unlike before, due to the influence of COVID-19, WWDC20 will be an all-new online. This pandemic not only affected the format of this conference, but I think it will also have a far-reaching impact on our future lifestyle, and will certainly affect Apple’s development strategy.

There are a few days before the beginning of WWDC20, I will do some prospects of WWDC20. We will talk about hardware, software, and the future.

The following story is mixed with some rumors from the internet and my conjecture about Apple, so some may be become reality, and some may never be seen.

About Hardware

Historically, WWDC Special Event Keynote does not focus on the release of new hardware products. People also place emphasis on software updates.

Therefore, WWDC20 may not release ‘reality’ hardware products, but there are still a few rumors about Apple hardware worth discussing:

• new Mac with ARM
• In the new iPad Pro with the A12Z Bionic chip(64bit ARM-based), we see the computing power almost comparable to a computer. With the accumulation of experience in A-series chips, it is time for Apple to release ARM-based Mac. Regardless of the advantages and disadvantages of the two architectures(Intel with CISC, ARM with RISC), only from the strategic analysis, an ARM-based Mac is more conducive to the Apple ecosystem development.
• For Apple Product Family, The unification of the architectures at the physical layer gives the operation system and application layer a broader space for development. More complex and efficient functions can be realized. For example, collaborative work among several Apple products.
• Apple Glass
• Recently there have been more rumors about Apple Glass. Although Google released Google Glass in 2013, it was a failed product. Without a doubt, WWDC20 will not release Apple Glass. However, due to the outbreak of the pandemic, we have more expectations for the likelihood of Apple Glass. With the development of AR/VR technologies, as well as Apple’s cumulative experience on the tiny devices like AirPods and Apple Pencil, it has cleared obstacles to the release of Apple Glass. The specific application scenarios of Apple Glass will be discussed together with AR/VR technologies in the following software section.

About Software

Software updates are always the focal point of WWDC. Here I will not simply list the new features of iOS14, we mainly discuss the system architecture and AR/VR applications.

• Apple Platforms:
• Apple Platforms currently includes iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS. As mentioned above, Apple plans to release ARM-based Macs. In the foreseeable future, iPadOS will replace macOS. so that iOS, iPadOS, and macOS will be unified into one OS(maybe called AppleOS). If Apple releases hardware similar to Apple Glass in the years to come. Apple will also release mini version iOS (maybe called GlassOS)
