We’re excited to announce that MongoDB Atlas is available in three new regions on Google Cloud, bringing the total number of supported Google Cloud regions to 24. As of September 2020, you’re able to deploy fully managed MongoDB databases in every Google Cloud region.

The newest Atlas regions on Google Cloud are —

  • Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (us-west3)
  • Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (us-west4)
  • Jakarta, Indonesia (asia-southeast2)

Like all other Google Cloud regions, these additions have three or more zones and are recommended Atlas deployment destinations for ensuring continuous availability. Atlas automatically distributes the three or more nodes in your cluster across the zones within your selected region(s). Regions that have three or more zones help ensure that failure events — most of which are isolated to a single zone — will not result in downtime and are seamlessly handled by Atlas’s automated election and failover settings.

These regions expand the geographical coverage not just of Atlas on Google Cloud, but Atlas as a whole. We’re particularly excited about being able to provide fully managed MongoDB for organizations doing business in Indonesia, one of the most creative, dynamic, and entrepreneurial countries in Southeast Asia. The availability of Atlas in asia-southeast2 will provide lower latency access to data, more options for disaster recovery across the Asia-Pacific region, and make it easier for customers to satisfy local regulatory and compliance requirements.

Overall, we are thrilled to be able to bring the fully managed experience to more local communities of developers, startups, and innovators. We can’t wait to see what you build.
