Postman is an application for testing APIs, by sending request to the web server and getting the response back. It provides features to further customize requests be allowing the configuration of headers and cookies the API expects, and checks the response. For some, downloading additional software can be a convenience. Thunder Client is a Visual Studio Code Extension that provides similar features to Postman that is well worth a look.
