While the emphasis at the moment is focusing on the US presidential elections, the UK, being one of the largest economies on this planet, also had elections this year, being 2019. The UK elections are different from the US elections because people vote for the party instead of the person. In addition, the campaign only lasts for six weeks, which is significantly shorter than the US presidential campaign.
I can recall when I was submitting my US Form 1040 tax returns, there was a tick box where I could elect to have $1 of my tax obligations go to the US presidential campaign, but I am not aware of ever being asked by the UK government to help support any such campaign. As far as I am aware, the political party is obliged to fund the UK general election campaign, with party members often distributing leaflets and knocking on doors.
