Like many people living during this socially distant era, I found myself “accidentally” spending hours on end scrolling through some of the most popular video-sharing social networks, such as TikTok and Byte. While I was certainly entertained by these 10-second viral clips, I knew that I could be spending my time in a wiser, more productive fashion. After landing on a video of someone claiming that they could _record _the “perfect loop”, it made me wonder if I could build the perfect loop.

I then decided as a fun quarantine project, I was going to build a video-sharing social network where users could record, edit, and post short-form looping videos. This project would later be named windmill.

The following article is an account of my personal design and development process, and the challenges that I faced along the way. None of this is perfect, and I’m sure that some of my ideas and decisions will be critiqued — something that I would welcome! However, this process is what worked for me.
