“Why don’t you study computer science?”
Computer science and software engineering are two of the fastest growing occupations in the US. Even non-programmers have become familiar with words like “Big Data” and “coding” and “algorithms.” It’s trendy and profitable and here to stay. So why doesn’t everyone study it?
Well, maybe computer science has a reputation problem. You might be put off by the jargon, or if you’re a woman, the toxicity that’s unfortunately rampant in the field. Some might find it overly technical or boring or difficult. Here are some different reasons people (including me) have given for not learning how to program:
