Working in cloud finance, I often get the question: “what should I do to prepare for an interview?”. The question is hard for me to answer as working in cloud finance is quite different than other finance roles which I have had exposure to. However, this article aims to provide some key learning resources and tips for people interested in applying for roles as a cloud finance manager.

First, there’s a lot of “cloud” to cover as the space is pretty large and all-encompassing. The laundry list includes: Technical skills, industry trends, cloud economics, hardware specifics, engineering management/partnership, and core financial skills on top of a number of other topics. Fortunately, all of these topics are super interesting and data about them is openly available via YouTube or free training websites like EdX, Linkedin Learning, or AWS/Azure training sites.

Second, think of these new topics as a great opportunity to grow and demonstrate your cognitive flexibility vs. seeing them as a barrier to entry. A lot of people in the cloud finance industry today did not come pre-loaded with this knowledge, and the cloud is so large that we’re all perpetually learning it. This is the exciting challenge!
