Introduction to Simple Storage Services (S3), Elastic File Systems (EFS), Elastic Block Store (EBS), and FSx for Windows and Lustre, the AWS Cloud Storage Options.

Amazon AWS offers different solutions for storage to attend different scenarios.

When planning how to use storage in your solution and applications, it is important to understand the different types and application. As in technology is well known that there is no “one-size-fits-all”.

In this article, I will go through the overview of available storage services — as of now — provided by AWS.

Elastic Block Store (EBS)

EBS is the disk drives that you can attach and mount to your EC2 instances. It is automatically created when launching a new instance by default.

You have the option to create additional EBS and attach to your EC2 instances according to the needs.

EBS Volumes are dedicated to the EC2 instance where they were provisioned and cannot be mounted on different EC2 instances at the same time.
