What is Nodle?

Nodle is a connectivity provider for the Internet of Things. The company has built a robust Bluetooth Low Energy-powered network to help companies and cities connect and collect data from their devices, sensors, and tags.

How does Nodle work?

The Nodle Network’s architecture and system design leverage what is called “The Smartphone Infrastructure”, utilizing smartphones as nodes and base stations for the network. The team at Nodle has developed an innovative way to grow the network through “proof of connectivity”. Using this method, mobile application developers and consumers compete and participate in the network by enabling their smartphones to provide resources such as wireless radio and bandwidth, and in exchange for their contribution, get rewarded with Nodle Cash.

This participation is called “proof of connectivity.” Every rewarded coin has been minted. A summary of the proof of work is stored on InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), and is attached to the minted coin on the blockchain via a link.

The Nodle network rewards users based on which wireless data packets are transmitted through the network of nodes (smartphones). These packets are comparable to a beacon and are called “noodles” in Nodle internal system. Nodle may reward the first few nodes that show a new packet, paying more or less depending on the value of the packet. In order to guarantee that Nodle is faithful to its mining model, Nodle has inserted a validation protocol which guarantees the order of arrival of the beacons.

How does the Nodle Cash app work?

All you have to do is create a username, password, turn on Bluetooth in your phone’s settings and start earning Nodle Cash. It’s that simple. Nodle Video

You earn Nodle Cash when your phone connects and collects data from IoT devices and sensors using Bluetooth Low Energy. The information is then sent back to the owner of the IoT device. Your personal data is not shared with the owner.

To better understand, there are increasingly more and more IoT devices with sensors all around us which need to transfer data back to their owners, but only have Bluetooth radios in them (e.g. no WiFi or LTE). The Nodle Cash app uses the Bluetooth radio in your phone to connect to these IoT devices as you walk by and securely transfers the IoT data from Bluetooth to LTE to whatever company owns the IoT device (e.g. e-Scooter, pet with a tracking device, cargo with a sensor). The app tracks how much data your phone transfers for the IoT device(s) and awards your account with Nodle Cash accordingly. The amount of each award is dependent on many variables such as: quality of the connection, how much data is transferred, ‘value’ of the IoT device in question, and more.

What is the difference between the Nodle Cash app modes?

Eco: The app will run as long as it’s open. You may earn less or find fewer IoT devices nearby than in Expert Mode, but it’s more resource-friendly.

Expert: For power users who want the best performance (earn more Nodle Cash) and fully contribute to The Citizen Network, unlike Eco Mode, Expert Mode forces the app to run in the system’s foreground. The only drawback is that it’s less resource-friendly.

How much battery does the Nodle Cash app use?

Nodle Cash in Eco Mode is designed to use 1-3% of a smartphone battery per 24 hours. This varies due to Smartphone version, Android system version, BLE chipset manufacturer, BLE chipset firmware version, and the number of nearby IoT devices. We are working hard to optimize our application.

Does the app always run in the background?

Simply turning off Bluetooth in your phone settings stops Nodle Cash from scanning in the background. Our app is specially designed to run at all times in the background without impacting user experience.

Is it possible to run the app on multiple devices with the same account?

Yes, just backup your 12 character private key in the settings section.

What is a public key or an address?

Your address is generated from your public key, it can be shared with people so they can send you some Nodle Cash, this is similar to the address of your home when people want to send you some letters. A public key is part of some cryptographic material called a “key pair” (like the keys you have in your pocket) that can be used to send transactions to the network (like when you open a locked box to access a secret).
