If you had 4 weeks, financial support, access to a rich set of digital creativity tools, and the expertise of one of the leading app and creative development teams, what could you build?

That’s the question Snap is asking communities of developers, creators, designers, and machine learners from around the world. And they’re hoping to find a diverse group of individuals and/or small teams to provide answers in the form of immersive, interactive Snapchat Lenses.

Explore some of the best and brightest Snap AR Creators and their Lenses

This is the first edition of Snap’s AR Creator Residency (deadline extended through August 28, 2020), and the themes for development this time are gaming and education. The residency coincides with Snap’s release of Lens Studio 3.x, which includes a host of new features and functionality.

Key among these new features, at least for the Heartbeat audience, is SnapML, Lens Studio’s machine learning framework that allows creators to implement custom neural networks to build unique and more immersive augmented reality experiences. We’ve covered this announcement in some depth…here are a few helpful resources to get caught up to speed:

Those awarded these residencies will also have a number of other opportunities, including having their Lenses featured prominently on Snapchat and preferred consideration to be included as an Official Lens Creator.

But it isn’t just traditional AR developers that Snap is looking to support.

From their call for submissions:

Creators do not need to have direct experience in AR, but most successful applicants will have professional level expertise in at least one of the following areas:

* Technical Art

* Graphic Design

* Machine Learning

* Fine Art/Illustration

* 3D Modeling/Animation

* Interactive Programming

As a reminder, the deadline has been extended through August 28th. The residency is set to take place during a 4-week period from Sept. 14-Oct. 9, 2020. Below you’ll find the call for submissions, which includes a link to a Google Form. Good luck, and happy building!
