Developers usually have a lot of misconceptions about coding, especially budding developers. Belief in these myths limits their capabilities to learn and grow in career.Every year fresh graduates join our team, and they have similar incorrect notions about software development. I have even met developers with many years of experience who carry some of these misconceptions.Discarding the initial perceptions from people’s minds is difficult. Once they are established, it requires a lot of effort to get rid of them.Hence, it is better to know the myths around coding as early as possible in your career so that you can separate them from the facts.

Myth Buster:

This is a classic myth among developers with less experience in the software industry and the freshers.I am not saying coding is a piece of cake, and anyone can do it from day one. But, it is not rocket science either. Anything worthwhile to learn will be a challenge when you start. The initial few weeks are not going to be easy when you begin learning a new programming language. But once you understand the fundamentals and have hands-on knowledge, it will slowly grow on you.To give you a bit of convincing — I have worked with many good developers throughout my career in companies like Dell, Citigroup, and Merrill Lynch, who are from a non-engineering background. These developers had no formal training in software engineering during their education. But they learned on their own, and with time they have become good at coding.

What you can do:

  • Learn the _fundamentals _in the programming language of your choice.Do not expect to become super-efficient in coding overnight.Give yourself at least three to four weeks to learn the _basics _of a new programming language.Practice _regularly _with small code snippets.
