Itwas a nice and peaceful evening when I decided to spend some time on adding minor features to our Java project, when my eye caught this line in IntelliJ Idea.

I heard about Kotlin before, but didn’t care much. My understanding was that it is just another JVM based language like Groovy or Scala and I was not impressed by both of them. A number of attempts and tries lead me to an idea that** good old Java is the best option for the majority of cases**.

But the promise to** convert my Java file into Kotlin in just one click**?! Wow, I was intrigued! I selected the menu option, and it worked! I saw my class fully (well, almost) converted to another language. The whole new and shiny world opened upon me…

…Sometime later I found myself in the middle of the night converting Java files one after another to Kotlin and uncontrollably giggling, looking how beautiful they look now. In my entire 13 years career I have never had such an astonishing engineering experience. I was literally enjoying the process.
