Here are the steps on how to calculate subtotals in Excel:

Using the SUBTOTAL function

  • Select the cells you want to calculate subtotals for.
  • In the Formula Bar, type the following formula:
=SUBTOTAL(function_code, range)

Where function_code is the function you want to use to calculate the subtotal, and range is the range of cells you want to calculate subtotals for. For example, to calculate the sum of the cells in the range A1:A10, you would use the following formula:

=SUBTOTAL(9, A1:A10)

The function codes for the different subtotal functions are:

1: Sum

2: Count

3: Average

4: Minimum

5: Maximum

  • Press Enter.

Using the Subtotal feature

  1. Select the cells you want to calculate subtotals for.
  2. Click the Data tab.
  3. In the Subtotals group, click the Subtotal button.
  4. In the Subtotal dialog box, select the function you want to use to calculate the subtotals.
  5. In the At each change in box, select the column that you want to use to break the data into groups.
  6. Click the OK button.

The subtotals will be calculated and displayed in the cells below the selected range.
