Hello dear lector, this occasion we will introduce in the world of IoT. Nowadays, maybe you have heard a lot about it right? Many people saying: “everything is connected”, “from just one device we can control many devices” and so on. Well, there is more than that, and that’s what we are going to learn here. So, get comfortable, and let’s start knowing more about this awesome concept.

“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided” — J.K. Rowling

Currently, everyone that has a laptop, cellphone, among other electric devices and is connected to the Internet have much power in his hands. As J.K. Rowling says, we are stronger when we are united, and when we talk about the Internet, this strength comes in terms of access to information and making our lives easier.

Today, whether you are from the XXI — XX century, you have been using the Internet for many things. Then, have you ever wonder when you used IoT? Let me give you a simple example: any time you use a smart bracelet that gets information about your vital signs and shares it with an app in your smartphone, you are using IoT. In this way, the Internet of Things is in simple words: the interconnection between devices and the reception and transmission of information that takes place between them. In other words, is establishing relationships not just between computers but with many devices as possible. Amazing right? Let’s find out how this begins.

The term IoT was first coined in 1999 by Kevin Ashton, the executive director of the Auto-ID Center. However, ideas and technologies that lead to the popularity of this concept come from years ago (timeline IoT). Ashton used this term in a presentation that he made to Procter and Gamble, in which he linked the RFID with the supply chain of P&G.

Since 1999 more applications developed subjacent to IoT. But, according to IBSG was between 2008–2009 that the Internet of Things born. Because that was the time in which more objects or things were connected to the Internet than people.
