A cloud compute instance is one of the best ways to get access to high-end software without having to expend large amounts of money for tangible hardware. Services such as Amazon’s EC2 and Google’s Cloud Compute Engine offer durable and sought-after features to make your programming as swift as possible. This guide will help you set up your own virtual machine instance in the Google Cloud and use it to code applications.

There is a wide variety of different virtual machine instances offered by dozens of companies. To keep things simple, I am going to be talking about Google’s Cloud Compute Engine. While you may be using a different service provider, the steps should be similar.

Creating an instance:

Creating a virtual machine instance in the cloud is fairly simple. First, open up your Google Cloud Dashboard, and under the Compute Engine menu, click on the button labeled, “VM Instances.” You will be directed to a new page where you can click the create button. From here, Google will allow you to configure your very own virtual machine.
