Covid-19 has had an impact on nearly all aspects of life, including people’s work, also in the broad sector of IT (and what interests us the most — Data Science field).

To support fellow industry colleagues looking for a job I decided to make a small analysis on LinkedIn data and answer questions like:

  • Which countries have the biggest Data Science workforce?
  • Which countries have the biggest Data Science job market (number of open jobs)?
  • Which countries have the biggest amount of Data Science specialists per capita?

And finally — where it is the easiest to get Data Science job (according to the ratio between number of open jobs and workforce size)?

The study has been conducted on LinkedIn Jobs & People data for all the countries where there were** at least 2 job offers in the field of Data Science and similar (Data Scientists, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Science Managers, Big Data Specialists).**

Before we get too excited about the results — let’s remember one thing: the analysis has been done** only on LinkedIn data**. The website itself is not equally popular around the world, therefore in countries where LinkedIn is less popular, most jobs can be published on other websites and specialists have less incentive to register and share their profiles, therefore we may miss some data.

However, LinkedIn is still the most popular employment-oriented online service so we can still catch some interesting insights!

1. Biggest amount of scientists per capita

Let’s start with the popularity of Data Science careers worldwide .Which countries have the biggest amount of data scientists per capita? How many people there are per one Data professional?

It seems that Data careers are the most popular among people from small and advanced economies (and USA) — Ireland, Singapore, Switzerland, USA, Luxembourg.
